Is Economist Thomas Piketty Reliable?

This is how Piketty 2014 described recent wealth inequality trends in the UK. His own cited source (HMRC series C) put the Top 1 & 10% at 21 and 54 percent respectively in its most recent available year. How is this even remotely defensible?
