Wisconsin Budget would end subsidized child care for state employees

The Wisconsin State Journal reports:
Gov. Scott Walker's biennial budget proposal would no longer fund subsidized child care for state employees who work in Downtown Madison, ending a perk initiated 19 years ago by fellow Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson.

Critics of the subsidy say it unfairly benefits a select group of workers and that the state can't afford the $293,000 annual cost.

"During tough budget times, we think it is reasonable to save money in this area, especially when state employees have additional day care options," said Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie.
Interesting.
