Stephen Bing Gives $40 Million for Calif. Oil Tax

Newsmax reports:
Hollywood billionaire Stephen Bing has contributed $40 million to the campaign to pass California's Proposition 87, an oil tax measure - the largest individual donation to a ballot initiative in the state'’s history.

Proposition 87 would impose a tax of up to 6 percent on oil produced in California to pay for as much as $4 billion in alternative energy vehicles, fueling stations, research, education and training.

Film producer Bing, who inherited an estimated $600 million from his real estate tycoon grandfather, has been a heavy contributor to Democratic causes and a major backer of Bill Clinton and John Kerry.

"This is completely unprecedented to have an individual pump this much money into a ballot measure," Robert Stern, president of the Center for Governmental Studies, told the Sacramento Bee.

But Ned Wigglesworth, a California Common Cause advocate, declared: "It's ridiculous that one person thinks they have a right to assert so much influence over public policy because they have the money to do so."
What's intersting is Steve Bing could give his money to the state of California if he wanted to.But,instead he wants everyone to give their more money to the state of California.Steve Bing is the authoritarian personality of our time.
