Up to 21,000 loan clients may have had data exposed

The Boston Globe reports:
Up to 21,000 borrowers had their personal data exposed to other users on a student loan website this week because of a software glitch, the US Department of Education said yesterday.

Those affected used six particular webpages between 9:16 p.m. Sunday and 10:16 a.m. Tuesday, when all the affected functions were turned off, said Theresa S. Shaw, chief operating officer of Federal Student Aid. The privacy breach was first reported in the Globe yesterday.
