Daley: City gas tax can't be cut

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Mayor Daley said Tuesday he sympathizes with Chicagoans struggling to fit skyrocketing gasoline prices into their tight household budgets. But he's not about to placate voters by reducing the city's nickel-a-gallon gasoline tax.

That would only deplete the pot of money used to repair pothole-filled streets at a time when the city's own fuel bills are on the rise, the mayor said.
In Chicago, there's never a good time to cut taxes.Check out the table on who taxes on a gallon of gas in Chicago.
