UConn To Pay $2.5 Million To Settle Overbilling Case

The Hartford Courant reports:
The University of Connecticut will pay $2.5 million to settle allegations it filed false grant applications and overbilled the government for research at two campus centers, the Justice Department said today, heaping more criticism on a university already dogged by management and oversight problems.

The university submitted false claims on about 500 federal grants awarded between 1997 and 2004, according to a settlement agreement released today. Prosecutors say the misconduct centered on research conducted at two university facilities, the Environmental Research Institute and the Booth Research Center, which conducts computer research.
