Strike brings France to a halt

France is in decline:

A one-day strike brought France to a halt yesterday after public transport workers, teachers and other public sector employees downed tools in a row over deregulated labour laws.

Trade union officials said around one million people stayed away from work on Tuesday in a row over economic policy and unemployment.
