City Farm Thrives Next To Strip Mall

As old cities lose their job base one wonders what their function is.Here's a story about what might happen in the future:
Amid a housing project, strip mall and busy intersection just north of Chicago's bustling business district, a small farm is flourishing on what was once vacant and blighted land.

Simply called City Farm, the acre plot produces organic tomatoes, squash and lettuce that is sold to residents and some of the city's swankiest restaurants.

Urban farms like the one in Chicago are popping up across the country in cities like Detroit and Philadelphia as people look to transform vacant properties into prospering land.
Urban America going rural.
