The continental shift of the drug industry

Anyone who thinks price controls on medication with not affect research and development in the United States should think again. The Philaphedia Inquirer reports:
The growing interest of pharmaceutical companies in India and China and other Asian markets underscores a recurring theme. The global pharmaceutical industry tends to move to markets where it can do business easily and make the most money. That has implications for the Philadelphia region, where much of the world's pharmaceutical industry is based.

Drug-industry employment in the Philadelphia region increased to 46,800 jobs over the last decade, as both American and European drugmakers expanded. By one measure, the industry here grew by 50 percent during this period.

But there is no guarantee that drugmakers will stay in the United States if more attractive markets emerge.
Those politicians that want to adopt a European style national health care plan should realize capital will flow to where it can get the best return on equity. Is there much medical research going on in Canada today?
