California students will have to take ethnic studies to get a diploma

Politico reports:

California will require students to complete an ethnic studies course to graduate from high school under a bill Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Friday, and it's believed to be the first state to mandate such coursework.

This probably will not help minorities reading below grade level in California.
