Initially hailed as “the vaccine for the world” when it appeared on European shores early this year, the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID inoculation, which was created in just 65 days and costs around $2 a dose, far below competing shots made by Pfizer and Moderna, held the promise of turning the tide on the pandemic.
