Harvard University sorority goes gender neutral amid crackdown on single-sex social clubs

The Daily Mail reports:
A Harvard University sorority will admit male members for the first time in its history amid the school's crackdown on single-gender social clubs.

The Cambridge branch of Kappa Alpha Theta announced on Monday it would disassociate itself from the national organization and become gender neutral from the fall of 2018.

The move was a response to harsh penalties introduced in 2016, which prevents members of single-gender clubs leading campus groups or serving as captains of sports teams. The university even won't back those students for major scholarships.

'This decision reflects our commitment to supporting our members as they take full advantage of the academic and leadership opportunities available to them as Harvard students, which we believe is central to our mission,' the sorority said.
