City Hall is circulating copies of a USA Today article about how LGBTQ groups are urging the company to avoid almost half the cities on its short list of 20 possible locations for the facility, which the company says will bring up to 50,000 jobs paying an average of at least $100,000 each.
The reason: nine cities—Atlanta, Austin, Columbus, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, Nashville, Raleigh and the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.—are located in states that that do not have anti-discrimination laws on their books making it illegal to fire or refuse to provide services for someone because of their sexual orientation.
The article was prompted by the rights group No Gay No Way, which asks on its website why the company "would even consider putting HQ2 in a state that discriminates."
