Bay Area is top region for outward migration in the U.S. Here's where people are going.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:
The Bay Area exodus is real and ongoing. The region leads the nation for outward migration, a new study has found.

From October to December, more people moved from the Bay Area than into the region, real estate site Redfin found in its quarterly migration report. The exodus follows a trend of people leaving the region, largely for more affordable inland counties.

The top destination for Bay Area residents looking to leave: Sacramento. About a quarter of Redfin users in the Bay Area hoping to move searched for Sacramento, the site said, followed by Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and San Diego.

San Francisco's median home price is $910,060, according to Zillow, which in Sacramento, it is $314,300. The migration figures seem to reflect the differences in cost of living: Net domestic migration – the number of people who moved in, minus the number who left – into Sacramento last year was a whopping 1,466, the California Department of Finance found. By comparison, San Francisco had a 2017 net domestic migration of -2,332.
