More than one-third of the 15 most expensive ZIP codes in the US are in the Bay Area

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

Multiple cities in the Bay Area have again been named in Forbes' ranking of the most expensive ZIP codes in the United States.

The unsurprising news makes California neighborhoods, and particularly Bay Area ones, some of the priciest in the country, even more so than those in notoriously exorbitant areas of Manhattan, like Tribeca and the Upper East Side.

As Forbes writes, the ZIP codes are being ranked by median list prices for more than 28,500 ZIP codes nationwide, as derived from asking prices for single-family homes and condos, with safeguards in place in the event an unusually pricey home hits the market. Forbes and a real estate research firm, Altos Research in Mountain View, consider "the mix of property types in that market," and from there, each ZIP code is assigned its median home price.
