Enrollment this fall is down nearly 10,000 students from last year, to 371,382. Last fall, enrollment plunged nearly 11,000. That’s 21,000 students who have vanished from CPS classrooms in just two years. That’s not a blip; it continues a long-term trend: In 2002, the district had 438,589 students.
