Bay Area seeks ways to manage anxiety in age of President Trump

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:
For the past few months, Amara Tabor-Smith has added a few more warm-up exercises to her Saturday morning Rhythm & Motion classes in the Mission, where 80 dancers regularly gather in yoga pants and drapey tank tops to joyously sweat. Sometimes Tabor-Smith begins class by telling her students to shudder the stress out of their bodies. Sometimes she encourages them to set a positive intention for the energy they’ll generate. Most often, these days, she asks the room to breathe together.

“We can come here together and acknowledge there is tension,” she said. “That’s one thing that we’re experiencing, regardless of what side we’re on.”

Since November’s presidential election, a new tension has infected the collective psyche of the Bay Area, where three-quarters of voters in many counties voted Democrat. The Bay Area is not alone: An American Psychological Association survey found that half of respondents, regardless of party, reported that the results of the election caused them significant stress. Among Democrats, that figure was 79 percent.
San Francisco snowflakes or just "flakes" in the news.
