SCOTUS deadlock seen limiting Clinton options on immigration

Politico reports:
The Supreme Court deadlock over President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration makes it unlikely that if Hillary Clinton wins the presidency, she’ll be able to quickly fulfill her promise to take bold action on the issue.

And the justices’ stalemate could intensify the standoff over filling late Justice Antonin Scalia’s Supreme Court seat.

By leaving in place rulings and precedents from courts sharply negative towards Obama's move the justices’ 4-4 tie could produce the same fate for any potential Clinton executive action on immigration if opponents moved quickly to block them.

“It’s obviously very problematic,” said Jan Ting, a former immigration service official under President George H.W. Bush and an opponent of Obama’s immigration actions. “Obviously, Hillary is blowing smoke rings by saying she’s going to do even more than Obama has given that Obama is stuck in his tracks and going nowhere.”
