Trump Calls Clinton Foundation ‘a Scam’

The Wall Street Journal reports:

In his first campaign rally as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump opened a new line of attack against likely general election opponent Hillary Clinton, calling her family’s foundation “a scam” to enrich themselves.

“You look at the Clintons with the foundation, it’s a disgusting situation,” Mr. Trump told a crowd of supporters at an arena in Charleston, W.Va.

Mr. Trump added that he has been a financial supporter of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation but suggested the funds had been misused.

“I gave money to the foundation,” Mr. Trump said. “I didn’t know they were going to use it to fly around in a private jet.”

A spokesman for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment on Mr. Trump’s attack.

Most of Mr. Trump’s 46-minute speech focused on proposals to roll back environmental regulations that he said are restricting jobs in the coal industry. Mr. Trump, who travels on his own fleet of airplanes and helicopters, criticized President Barack Obama for riding on Air Force One even as he supports efforts to fight climate change.
