The controversial principal of Automotive HS is zooming off to Long Island. The great moments of government schools.
Caterina Lafergola is dumping the long-suffering Brooklyn school — which Mayor de Blasio promised to fix with his $400 million “Renewal” program — to become principal of Baldwin HS on July 1, The Post has learned.
Last year, de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña kept Lafergola in the driver’s seat at Automotive — while replacing principals at other failing schools — despite four prior years of plunging enrollment, rock-bottom Regents scores and dismal graduation rates with her at the helm.
“Her departure marks the failure of her leadership and the downward spiral of Automotive,” said a veteran educator familiar with the school. “The Baldwin community has no idea what they’re in for.”
