'Innocent' city worker killed walking out of coffee shop near Chicago police headquarters

The Chicago Tribune reports:
A dispatcher with the city's 311 Center was killed as she walked out of a coffee shop about a block from Chicago police headquarters on the South Side Friday afternoon in a shooting that left the intended target injured, police said.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. near a Starbucks at 35th Place and State Street when a gunman opened fire on a man, a documented gang member, who was struck several times, Superintedent Eddie Johnson told reporters at the scene of the shooting.

The shooting happened across the street from the headquarters parking lot and across the street from the edge of the Illinois Institute of Technology campus.
