George Martin, the record producer and label executive who signed the Beatles and became their indispensable mentor and collaborator throughout their career, has died. He was 90.Another legend passes.
Martin's death, which Ringo Starr tweeted about early Tuesday evening, was confirmed to the Times by his son Gregory Paul Martin.
“He’s been frail for some time,” Gregory Paul Martin said in an email. “He died at home peacefully in his sleep.”
Martin produced nearly all of the Beatles' recordings, advising them on songwriting and arranging and capturing the vitality of their early performances in the studio.
