Thirty-two people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, three of them fatally, pushing the number of homicides so far this year to nearly double the same period last year. The great moments of Blue America! No word yet on this story from Barack Obama, who knows something about Chicago.
As of early Monday, the city had recorded at least 91 homicides since the first of year compared to 47 over the same time last year, according to data kept by the Tribune. Overall, there have been at least 416 shooting in Chicago this year compared to 193 a year ago -- a 115 percent increase.
The weekend's youngest shooting victim was a 3-year-old boy wounded in the leg as he played with a relative in the 5600 block of South Wolcott Avenue on Saturday afternoon. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
Police said the boy apparently was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang fight. No one was reported in custody.
