Obama Regime Coerces Settlement. Transgender student locker room case settled, but controversy remains

The Chicago Tribune reports:
Marking the end of a historic battle over transgender student rights, Illinois' largest high school district has agreed to allow a transgender student locker room access after a lengthy and bitter fight.

But the next test may be how the controversial settlement will be implemented and the extent of its reach. There are already indications that the parties to the settlement aren't interpreting it in the same way.

The agreement, which the school board in Palatine-based Township High School District 211 approved early Thursday morning amid cries of anger from detractors, followed an unprecedented finding by federal education officials that the district had violated federal gender equality laws when it denied the student full access to the girls' locker room.

The plight of the student, who was born male but has identified as female for several years, touched a nerve in the community and thrust the northwest suburban district in the national spotlight, raising questions of equality, privacy and tolerance.

Catherine Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education, called the agreement a "civil rights victory for all of us."

"I think each of us is diminished when we deprive somebody of civil rights, and I think this is a great day for students in the district and for students around the country to recognize that the federal government is here to support your rights," Lhamon said.
The Education Department: your local school board's boss. Don't you forget that. Are you a bad parent if you send your child to a government school controlled by the Obama regime?
