The company is launching UberEats in its San Francisco hometown this week, offering lunchtime curbside deliveries of a couple of dishes from a rotating roster of restaurants. Available only in the Financial District and South of Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, UberEats promises deliveries within 10 minutes for a flat $3 fee. The fee will be waived during a launch period of at least one month.
Michael Mina’s Ramen Bar, Dosa, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse and Roli Roti are among the restaurants that will participate during the first week with “signature dishes” that change daily. Meals will typically cost $8 to $12, Uber said. Users order by selecting the Eats option in their Uber app.
Cowen & Co. senior analyst Kevin Kopelman calls it “ultrafast” food delivery. UberEats has been available for several months in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin and Barcelona.
