Supermarkets agree to set new minimum price for milk amid mounting pressure to give farmers a better deal

The Telegraph reports:
Four UK supermarket chains have bowed to pressure and promised to pay a minimum price per litre for all of the liquid milk sold in their UK stores.

The move comes after a week of upheaval in the country's struggling dairy industry during which farmers have herded cattle through supermarkets in protest at the rock-bottom prices they're being paid for the milk they produce.

Aldi confirmed a new price of 28p per litre, which will be paid from Monday to the three dairies from which it buys milk: Arla, Muller Wiseman and Graham's Family Dairy.

Asda, owned by US-based retail giant Walmart, is also supplied by Arla, has increased the price it pays for milk to at least 28p per litre, without increasing the cost to consumers.
The milk cartel in England says no to competition and lower prices.
