Illinois State Police trooper charged with shooting into ex's home

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
An Illinois State Police trooper was ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail Thursday for allegedly shooting into his ex-girlfriend’s Southwest Side home while she slept next to another man.

Juan Lopez had broken up with the woman — also an Illinois State Police trooper — two weeks before he allegedly fired six bullets into her rear sliding glass door and rear kitchen window on the morning of April 6, 2014, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Lauren Freeman said.

Lopez’s attorney, Dan Herbert, argued that his client did not commit the off-duty crimes he was accused of. Lopez believed his ex’s home was broken into and rushed to her residence to help, the defense attorney told Judge Laura Sullivan.
No word yet from the "only police should owns guns" crowd on this story.
