Hillary Clinton tilts left as Liz Warren’s camp amps campaign

The Boston Herald reports:
Hillary Clinton struck a more progressive tone during an appearance in Washington yesterday in a possible move to ease the concerns of the party’s left wing as activists continued to ramp up calls for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren to jump into the race.

Speaking at an urban policy roundtable discussion hosted by the Center for American Progress, Clinton spoke about the need “to make sure that our cities are not just places of economic prosperity and job creation on average, but do it in a way that lifts everybody up.”

Those close to Clinton told the Herald that neither the calls for Warren to enter the race nor the kickoff of the GOP presidential primary season — with U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz announcing he’s running — have affected the former secretary of state’s plans. One strategist said the fact that Clinton is more well-known than other potential candidates gives her the advantage of time.

“No one says ‘Hillary Who?’ ” the strategist said.

Warren’s federal PAC for a Level Playing Field has raked in donations at a steady pace, including $1.5 million in 2014 as she crisscrossed the country in the run-up to the midterm elections. As of the end of last year, the PAC had more than $1 million on hand.
Hillary starts to feel the competition.
