The Wisconsin State Journal reports:
In repeatedly saying right-to-work legislation would be a distraction, Gov. Scott Walker is echoing the position of his fellow Republican Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan, who dodged questions about that state's right-to-work bill in 2012 -- until he signed it into law.The right to work update. Here's more on the story.
Walker offered similar comments again Friday, when he also refused to say whether he would veto a right-to-work bill.
Snyder had repeatedly said right-to-work legislation was a divisive issue, wasn't a priority for him, and was not on his agenda. Then he signed the Michigan bill in December 2012, the same day the measure passed the GOP-controlled statehouse, which was filled with protesters.
Walker is no stranger to protests. He drew tens of thousands to the Capitol and national headlines just months after taking office in early 2011 when he unveiled his measure to all but end collective bargaining for most of Wisconsin's public workers, a law now known as Act. 10.
"I still think it's a distraction, as I've said," Walker said Friday.
But Walker again declined to say whether he would veto or sign such a bill.
