The high cost of dormitory living

The Chicago Tribune reports:
Investment in the student housing sector has more than doubled globally since 2007. More than $7 billion was injected into student housing in 2013. That number will likely increase for 2014 as colleges are continuing to spend billions of dollars on lavish amenities.

Auburn University has a tiger paw-shaped swimming pool, a corkscrew track, a pool with a rock climbing wall, and rooftop gardens. Louisiana State University has a lazy river.

Wichita State University recently constructed a residence hall, which includes a dining hall and a coffee shop, that cost $65 million. Naturally, the students will be footing the bill for it.
Is higher education a bigger scam than you think?
