Flashback to Harvard Professor Joseph Schumpeter: The State Lives Off The Private Sector

Flashback to 1942, to Harvard economist Joseph Schumpeter's classic book Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy :
The friction or antagonism between the private and the public sphere was intensified from the first by the fact that . . . the state has been living on a revenue which was being produced in the private sphere for private purposes and had to be deflected from these purposes by political force.
Just a reminder ,Schumpeter was no libertarian but being honest here: the state is theft. Taxes aren't "club dues".
