UIC faculty union threatens 2-day strike

The Chicago Tribune reports:
University of Illinois at Chicago’s faculty union announced Thursday night that it will strike for two days later this month if it feels the administration is not beginning to “bargain in earnest” on a contract.
According to an email sent to union members, the faculty walkout would occur Feb. 18-19. Faculty members would refuse to teach classes, hold office hours or perform other duties on those days.
There's more:
The union has said in the past that it is seeking a 3.5 percent salary increase, while the administration has offered 2.75 percent. The group also is asking that the minimum salary for full-time lecturers, many of whom hold a doctorate, be increased to $45,000 and that they be offered multi-year contracts. The current minimum is $30,000, according to the union.
This means many Chicago Public School teachers make more money than people with PH.D's at UIC.
