Dominick's exit could be Chicago's largest layoff in years

Crain's Chicago Business reports:
The shutdown of as many as 68 Dominick's grocery stores next month could produce the biggest layoff in metro Chicago in years, with upwards of 6,600 employees at risk of losing their jobs.

Dominick's said yesterday it will close all of its unsold stores — its parent Safeway Inc. put them all on the block three weeks ago — on Dec. 28. The Pleasanton, Calif.-based grocer has sold four locations to the private-equity owners of Jewel-Osco.
