The Chicago Sun-Times reports on an Illinois state House race:
In a House district that is 51-percent Latino, state Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano said Tuesday he has lined up backing from the best-known Latino politician in Illinois.
There's more:
Saviano (R-Elmwood Park), who is running against Democrat Kathleen Willis for the 77th House District, plans to announce an endorsement by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) during an event Tuesday at Saviano's Wood Dale campaign office.
This should raise an eyebrow because Luis Gutierrez (Democrat-
Tony Rezko) is supposed to be a loyal Democrat. It seems
the infamous Chicago Mob linked Rosemont casino issue will not go away:
Saviano once enjoyed a warm relationship with Madigan, who anointed him a committee chairman for a dozen years. That rare act of bipartisanship was more a reflection of Madigan’s respect for Saviano’s late political mentor, Rosemont Mayor Donald Stephens, than an act of generosity toward Saviano himself.
There's more:
Saviano went after the speaker’s daughter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, after she torpedoed the proposed Emerald Casino in Rosemont in 2004 and publicly suggested Stephens had ties to organized crime.
“When the whole casino thing came through, she got on TV and called him a ‘mafia boss.’ That didn’t sit too well with me,” Saviano told the Chicago Sun-Times.
This is a very sensitive subject in Chicago. Just ask Rod Blagojevich's "bagman"
Eric Holder. Who could forget that Tony Rezko bought land right across the street from where the Rosemont casino was supposed to be? No word yet on this story from
Roger Ebert or his wife Chaz, or John "No Nose" DiFronzo of Elmwood Park fame. To state Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano the Chicago Mob is
gone.
