New Illinois law: Customers will be carded when buying products containing ‘caustic materials’

Benton Evening News reports:
A new law intended to track those who purchase products that contain substances regulated by the Federal Caustic Poison Act goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2012.

John Huffman, owner of Town & Country True Value, said he wants to prepare customers for the new law before it begins.

“We don’t want people to be caught off-guard when we start asking them for a photo identification card and other pertinent information,” Huffman said. “We also want people to know that it is not just us that will be asking for this information. We are complying with the new law.

“Every retailer throughout the state that sells products containing substances regulated by the Federal Caustic Poison Act and product labels that read ‘causes severe burns’ must maintain a registry of customers,” Huffman said.
