Gov. Daniels adds support to right-to-work effort

Indy Star reports:
Gov. Mitch Daniels today threw his support behind making Indiana a so-called “right to work” state.

In his statement, Dniels said the legislation “says only that no worker can be forced to pay union dues in order to keep a job.”

He argued that not having it on the books keeps some businesses from locating here. Putting it into law, he argued, will not hurt unionization or worker safety.

Republican legislative leaders, and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, have all said that is their top legislative priority. Daniels had urged legislators in the 2011 session not to bring up the contentious issue, which eventually led to a five-week shut down of the House as Democrats fled to Illinois to stop it and other bills that impact unions.
Some places want to be pro-business.
