Patriots fortunes depend on aging quarterback

The Boston Herald reports:
Prior to the arrival of the salary cap in 1994, Super Bowls were dominated by veteran quarterbacks who knew how to win. Four of the first five Super Bowl-winning teams were led by quarterbacks 33 or older and 15 of the first 24 Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks (some, like Green Bay’s Bart Starr, won more than once) were over 30. But since the arrival of the cap in 1994 only one quarterback older than Brady, who will be 34 years and 6 months when Super Bowl XLVI is played, has led a team to a Super Bowl victory. That was John Elway, who at 37 and 38 quarterbacked the Denver Broncos to back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.
