Chicago Alderman Sued By Former Candidate For Defamation

WLS reports:
A onetime political candidate who ran against 50th Ward Ald. Bernard Stone in 2007 is suing the alderman for defamation for allegedly calling the plaintiff a terrorist in interviews.

In a lawsuit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court, Salman Aftab claims that Stone damaged his reputation and caused emotional distress by making false statements alleging that he has ties to terrorist organizations.

The suit -- filed against Stone individually, as well as the Bernard L. Stone Campaign Committee and Concerned Citizens of the 50th Ward -- seeks $50,000 each for three counts of defamation and invasion of privacy.
