Cell tower opponent declares end to Palo Alto's free Internet connection

The San Jose Mercury News reports:
One Palo Altan has accepted he can't fight City Hall, but he says he can turn off its Internet.

Upset about the city's recent decision to tentatively allow AT&T to build a cell tower in his neighborhood, Stephen Stuart called his colleagues at Internet Systems Consortium, a nonprofit that has provided the city with a free connection for years, and asked them to pull the plug.

Stuart, a longtime volunteer who works closely with the consortium, said it agreed to his request. The consortium told Palo Alto officials on Tuesday that City Hall and other municipal buildings would be disconnected April 14, he said.
