S.F Bay Area's growth slowed to a crawl, census finds

The San Jose Mercury reports:
The Bay Area grew at its slowest rate in the state's history, according to 2010 census returns released Tuesday afternoon.

The nine-county region reached a population of 7.15 million people, a growth rate of 5.4 percent since the last census in 2000. It was a big change from the 1990s, when the region grew by more than 12 percent.

The region added about 367,000 people in the last decade. Not since the 1930s has the Bay Area added so few people in a decade.
High taxes, land use restrictions, and other regulations will slow growth.
