Illinois tax collections lag behind most states

Crain's Chicago Business reports:
It's not exactly a huge surprise, but sales and income tax collections in Illinois dropped off more last year than they did nationally.

According to a new report issued by the U.S. Census Bureau, Illinois sales tax collections here were off 5.5% in the 12 months ended June 30, 2010. That's tied for the 10th biggest drop among the 44 states that impose such a levy — and worse than any other mid-America state except for Nebraska.
