More States Want To Tax Your Estate

Forbes reports:
Last month, as part of a monster tax hike package, Illinois became the latest state to impose its own stand-alone estate tax, with an exemption of just $2 million and a top rate of 16%, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2011.

That brings the total number of states that impose an estate and/or inheritance tax for 2011 up to 22, plus the District of Columbia. Two of those states, Maryland and New Jersey, impose both an estate tax and an inheritance tax.
