‘13th check’ pension payouts: $73 million

The San Diego Union Tribune reports:
Retired city workers have received $73.5 million in bonus checks over the past 27 years under a policy that requires the San Diego pension system to make the payments in years with higher investment returns.

The dollar amounts of the individual checks are not eye-popping, like the $299,000 paid per year to the city’s top pensioner. The year-end bonus checks top out at $2,092 and average $757.

Given to 6,700 retirees, the benefit adds up.
They sure are special!
