Will Fannie Mae Destroy the Market For Rental Housing?

The Chicago Tribune reports:
In this country's ongoing housing debubble-ization, it has come to this: Even Fannie Mae, whose ostensible purpose is to promote homeownership, is coming out squarely in favor of supporting the needs of America's renters.

That's the conclusion of a remarkably deep study of how the nation now views homeownership, which noted that not only are Americans more gun-shy about buying, but also that changing patterns of marriage and having children are tilting the needle toward renting.
Will the masters of creating an excess supply of single family homes take their special magic to rental housing?
