U.S. May Require Graphic Don't Smoke Images on Cigarette Packs

The Sacramento Bee reports:
Federal regulators unveiled proposals Wednesday that would place graphic depictions of death and disease on every pack of cigarettes sold in the United States.

The warnings would be the most radical redesign of cigarette packages in 25 years, relegating such iconic brand images as Joe Camel to a secondary role on cigarette packaging.

The proposed new labels would occupy the top half of a cigarette pack and 20 percent of advertisements with such admonitions as "Tobacco Smoke Can Harm Your Children," "Cigarettes cause cancer" and "Smoking Can Kill You."
