The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
Some Chicago aldermen have asked Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias to run for mayor, said some sources close to the political figure.
He is expected to meet with six aldermen today who will try to persuade him to run to replace Mayor Daley.
There's more from
Crain's Chicago Business:
Mr. Giannoulias confirmed chatter that "I have received a lot of calls from aldermen and donors that I was absolutely not expecting." Reportedly included in that group are City Council graybeards Ed Burke (14th) and Dick Mell (33rd), who don't much like the idea of taking orders from a Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
