Chicago is on the brink of becoming another Detroit

The Chicago Tribune reports:
Chicago has lost iconic corporate headquarters for various reasons: Amoco, Waste Management, Quaker Oats, First Chicago, Continental Bank, Searle, Arthur Andersen, Borg-Warner and Zenith are examples. Sara Lee has moved to the suburbs. While this reflects in some part a national trend and the rising influence and attractiveness of other cities, this is no comfort to Chicago as a center of corporate enterprise. It negatively affects corporate philanthropy, and the declining revenue and travails of the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago are well-known.
