NYT Editorial: Republican Candidates Extreme

The New York Times has an editorial calling Republican candidates extreme:
Rand Paul, the United States Senate candidate in Kentucky and physician, who has criticized the minimum-wage law and the civil rights and fair housing laws. He wants to cut way back on unemployment insurance and has denigrated Medicare as “socialized medicine.”
The New York Times thinks Rand Paul is extreme because he doesn't think the U.S. federal government should own common stock in AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Citigroup. You'll notice how the NYT tries to hide op-ed contributor Barbara Ehrenreich's socialist background as a leader of the Democratic Socialists of America. Socialism to the NYT editorial page is progressive, while Rand Paul's libertarianism is "extreme".
