Chicago's Handgun Ban, Some History and Hope

Even the London press has taken notice of Chicago's handgun ban. In a city with police corruption problems, the right to own a hangun in one's home was recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court. What's sad is the Illinois Supreme Court, over the years, showed absolute contempt for the Illinois state consitution. We'll quote Article One , Section 22 concerning the RIGHT TO ARMS:
Subject only to the police power, the right of the
individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed.

Chicago's 1982 handgun ban was pushed through City Council by a high ranking made member of the Chicago Mob(where else could the Mob get elected to city council?) . This week, as Professor Glenn Reynolds has stated, there is hope:
Gun control was on the march, gun control proponents said it was only a matter of time before America joined other "civilized" countries by banning the private ownership of firearms, and laws at both the state and federal level were getting tighter. Morton Grove, Ill., had banned handguns, and had seen that ban upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals. (The Supreme Court declined to hear the case).

After this week , the handgun banners learned that 5 justices on the U.S. Supreme Court don't agree with them.
