Chicago Passes New Handgun Law: 45-0

Fox Chicago reports:
The City Council approved Mayor Daley's proposal to allow Chicagoans to own handguns with some tough restrictions Friday in a unanimous vote.

The aldermen approved the new regulations 45 to 0.

Among the requirements is one gun every 30 days for each adult in the house for each household, which must be registered with the police department. Gun owners will also have to go through five hours of weapons training in order to obtain a firearm permit.

“As mayor I must balance the interest of abiding by the US Supreme courts ruling with my responsibility to protect the people of Chicago and keep them safe, that's why we believe we have accomplished this in this ordinance,” Daley said.

Anyone convicted of domestic violence, a violent crime, or more than one DUI, will be prohibited from owning a gun.
45-0, this is the kind uniformity Comrade Suslov would have admired.
